Access Control Analysis

US 60 is considered to have nominal access control. Local driveway access points and local streets directly access US 60 EB and WB lanes. Access to US 60 should continue to be regulated through the NMDOT’s driveway access permitting process.

Left-turn and right-turn deceleration lanes for the intersections along the corridor do not meet the turning volume requirements according to the State Access Management Manual (SAMM), for the varying speed conditions except for 2019 existing volumes at US 60/Summit Avenue (NM 55) EB Left-turn which indicates 40 vph in the PM Peak Hour. Therefore, deceleration or acceleration lanes are not warranted for existing or 2040 horizon conditions except for US 60 eastbound left-turn at Summit Avenue (NM 55).
